UCD3138A64: Firmware cannot be downloaded

Hi,

I met a problem when testing UCD3138A64OEVM-662: the firmware "Lab_2_UCD3138A64.x0" cannot be downloaded into the EVM.

After I launched "UCD3XXX Device GUI" and click on "Scan device in ROM mode", it seems the GUI has identified the device:

After I donwloaded the firmware it shows the firmware "Download completed without error...":

Whereas I found the firmware did not execute at all after download. And it says "No devices found" when I click on "Command ROM to execute its program":

Actually it is ensure there is no any problem with the connection between GUI and EVM since I can configure the device to output PWM signal through memory debugger. I am not sure what is wrong?

Could you please help me with this problem?

You need to tie the fault 3 pin to ground. See main.c.

Yes, it is due to wrong configuration of jumper FAULT3. The board function properly now, thank you for your promptly help.

Hello,

Which PIN is Fault 3 in the board? Is this change required only in program main.c or we need to reflect this in hardware board?

On the open loop board, it is marked on the silk screen on the board, and shown on the schematic. We don't suggest changing the main.c code. With the labs it's too easy to screw up the code and make the PMBus checksum clear not work. At that point, if you don't have the fault 3 to clear the checksum, you have turned your chip into a tie tac.

Of course the best thing is to NOT write the checksum. It's not necessary if you have the PMBus interface, and it's not a standalone application.

And even the hardware backdoor can be screwed up.
