According to the datasheet, the UCD7242 BPCAP pin should decouple to logic ground. It is, however, locally connected to both grounds in the layout example (Figure 20). Seeing as BPCAP supply is produced from VGG (PGND referenced), should it not also reference (decouple to) PGND? This has been mentioned elsewhere in this forum, but never validated by TI.

2. Further, on the C6657 eval platform, the BPCAP pin decouples to a PGND island pour. This island pour also connects through all GND stitching vias to all other GND layers. This is in sharp contrast to the datasheet example (Figures 20-23) which shows no such connections other than one connection at R35/C31 (BPCAP/AGND/PGND) ground node. This seems insufficient in terms of tying PGND to logic ground.

I would expect to see lots of via stitching at both input and output GND/CAP points. What is the recommended approach for tying the PGND island to other GND layers, or is a separate PGND island and single point connection even appropriate for a board with many circuit elements?

Forum Post: RE: Multiphase converter using UCD9224 and UCD 7242

Hi ,

Kindly review the design and configuration file for our 4 phase 1V supply using UCD9224 and UCD74111.

The specs for the design are:

1. 12V to 1V @ 48 A (SoC requires only 40A)

2. 4 phases at switching frequency of 700KHz

3.
