I'm working on a power supply project. I have some doubts about the architectures, the advantages and disadvantages of a modular conversor and discrete conversor . What should I consider?

What type of power supply are you designing? Do you have some specifications that your design needs to meet? This will determine what is the best route to go.

I am designing a power supply to a processing board. The converter needs to step down 5V/28W.. It can be a non-isolated converter.

We are in doubt whether we use a modular or discrete converter. The machine must support military standards.

Can you tell me the advantages and disadvantages of each solution? We need to know wich design is better to military aplications.

The power quick search returns a lot of results for this standard configuration. I would highlight the TPS54318 and TPS84620 as a discrete solution and a modular solution that fill your requirements.

Modular solutions are simpler and easier to design. This is good if you have limited design resources or a limited design time. A discrete solution requires carefully following the datasheet's design equations and making a good layout. This is more difficult for non-power supply engineers and can be done incorrectly.

I encourage you to look through the various devices that the power quick search returns and see which meet your exact application requirements.
