"Medium" power solar PV (with battery back-up)

Looking for a "medium" power solar PV supply (with battery back-up) - on the order of 5-10W or so.

With battery monitoring - "gas gauge" or whatever.

For a remote-monitoring unit - cellular comms.

It seems to me that there are lots of "high" power solutions available - 50W and up - and a lot of interest in very "low" power "energy harvesting" applications; but not much in this "middle ground"...

Any ideas...?

  • If you are talking about a peak PV panel power output of 10W, to charge a battery running 24 hours into a sub-watt load, I would look at batteries and chargers for smart phones and tablets.
On the other hand, if you mean a 24 load of 5-10W, then you'll need a PV panel capable of more like 50-100W, which could be statisfied by a high-end notebook battery and charger circuit.
Not my field of expertise, but that's where I'd start.
