High Voltage Startup Circuit - Series Pass Regulator

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TL431

What is the need of the Capacitor between Cathode and reference of this circuit  and How to select the Capacitance value? Could anyone please explain it ? How can this circuit can be modified for Startup Circuit for High Voltage Isolated DC DC Converter?

  • Hello Arumugam,

It looks like someone added a capacitor between the cathode and reference of a TL431 in a series pass regulator. This will provide some feedback during power to the TL431 reference. This will slow down the rise of VOUT. You should be able to use 3RC time constants to estimate the rise time from VREF to Vout.

    Regards,
