LMV431: noise vs current

Part Number: LMV431
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV431

Hi,

As I'm doing both a noise sensitive and power sensitive design, I plan to run the LMV431 at considerably lower current than 1 mA. I can not find any literature specifying how noise is effected at lower than the 1mA test current. A graph of nV / Hz E -2  vs current at 1 KHz would be nice. Only reason I'm not using the TLV431 is that I plan to make the reference 16 Volts so if the divider resistors add to the noise I also need to know that.

Best regards,

Marty

  • Hi Martin,

The only noise data we have for this device is on the datasheet on figure 7. We do not have any tests regarding the effect of the Ika current on noise. From my understanding the Ika current will mainly affect the zener diode noise and a lower current can give a lower noise but we do not measure this.

A resistor divider will add noise so I would recommend to use a decoupling cap on the output of the Cathode to reduce the output noise.

  • The answer I got is basically "that information isn't in the data sheet". DUH! Do you really think I'm too stupid or too lazy to read the data sheet? I already know the information that I want isn't in the data sheet. That is why I posted the question on E2E. I actually thought this answer was a bit insulting.
