TPS7A61-Q1: TPS7A6133-Q1 low Vin operation

Part Number: TPS7A61-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7B70-Q1, TLE4275-Q1

Understand TPS7A61xx-Q1 requires Vin to exceed 11.0V to properly startup.  Need to know min Vin operation after startup for 3.3Vout, and reset trip accuracy.  Only clue from data sheet is 6Vin operation mentioned for load regulation, and Vin vs.5Vout dropout chart.

Thank you,

Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

The minimum Vin to ensure proper operation for TPS7A61-Q1 is 11 V. With a lower Vin, there is a small chance that the output will turnoff.

Please consider TPS7B70-Q1 or TLE4275-Q1 for the most similar alternatives if a lower Vin rail is required by your application.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
  • Ryan,

Thanks for quick reply.  Strange for an LDO to have 11Vin min with low drop-out spec.  Data sheet Vin_uvlo below is 3.16V/3.45V.

  • Hi Kevin,

I agree this is an unusual case. You will note in the Revision History of the datasheet that the original minimum Vin was 4 V; however, it has come to our attention that there was a very small chance of the output not coming up with lower input voltages (less than 11 V). We have added production screens to help further reduce the likelihood of this occurring; however, we also have increased the minimum input voltage to 11 V for this family.

The main use case of this linear regulator is in off-battery automotive applications. We have not seen issues in this type of application.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
