LMG5200: GaN Half Bridge Power Stage roadmap/portfolio

Part Number: LMG5200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG1210

Hi,

I am looking into a possible new design with a GaN Buck stage and a device like this is very interesting. However, I do not need more than approximately 5A peak output current so this device is much more powerfull (and expensive) than necessary. Is there a plan for variants/down-scaled versions of this device?

  • Hello Lasse,

We don't make comments on the publicly unannounced products or roadmaps but let me try to help you with LMG5200.

Even though LMG5200 is rated at 10A, the current capability in the application is dictated by the thermal cooling and losses of the system. What is your application, FET current, switching frequency, hard-switching/low switching and bus voltage?

Based on your input, we can determine if LMG5200 is suitable or overkill for your application. Of course, I would recommend you to use LMG5200 if possible due to benefits of integration. However, if a much higher or lower Rdson FET is needed, we do have a 200V HB driver - LMG1210 - with CMTI > 300V/ns, and a delay matching of 1.5ns that can be used to drive discrete FETs.

    Regards,
    Serkan
