Hello

1. Current transformer Vs Shunt Resister

I would like to know whether the current sensing should be isolated electricaly or not.

Is it possible using shunt resistors instead of Current Transformer?

2. Vsense terminal

Intenally Current source 250nA, woudl you explain about operating between current source, feedback and transconductance amplifier.

According to the application note, RA value is 3 Mohm, is this value related to internal current source 250nA?

Thanks and Best Regards

  • I thought that this question has been on the forum before.

This device was designed to use CTs and using a shunt instead is no easy task.

I have not done this personally; however, you might be able to do it with to low offset operational amplifiers to boost up the current sense signal.  This will allow you to use the offset and PWM ramp that is required for this topology for stability.  The cost of these amplifiers is generally more than using CTs and most customers have avoided trying this approach.
