Class G power supply for TAS 5624

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5630, TAS5631, TAS5624A, UCC28070, UCC28180, UCC25600, UCC29950, UCC28950

Hi, I want to use A 600-W, Isolated PFC Power Supply for AVR Amplifiers Based on the TAS5630 and TAS5631 for TAS5624A.

Pease answer some questions:

1. How I can make 36V and 12V output without change transformers.

2. Can I use it as class G power supply.

Best regards

Dmitriy

  • Hi Dmitry,

At 600W the PFC can be a single phase CCM, UCC28180 or an interleaved CCM boost circuit, UCC28070. This can be followed by an LLC isoltaion stage using the UCC25600.

Alternatively we have a new part due for release this month, the UCC29950 which is a combo controller with a single phase CCM PFC and LLC controller.

Unfortunately you will have to adjust the transformer designs to get the 36V output. We do have 12V transformer design available but they may be the wrong power level/size for your application.

What is the significance of the class G power supply?

  • Hi Peter,

Thank you for your previose answers.

    A have some:

1.I planning as you recommended use in new design of 2,5 kW 50V output AC-DC power supply moder chip UCC29950. Unfortunly I did't find information about it.

Can I make this design based of this chip with effectincy about 97%?

What technology of output MOSFET you recomanded: full bridge, half bridge and for PFC one or two phase?

Plese sent some description of this chip.

    Best regards

    Dmitriy

  • Hello Dmitriy

Attached are two documents on the UCC29950 PFC/LLC combo controller chip. Please note that both these documents are PRELIMINARY and SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

This device controls a single phase boost PFC input stage and an LLC output stage.

  • Dear Colin,

Thank you very much for information.

Please, can you write when will be aviable  samples of UCC29950.

    Regards

    Dmitriy Stanchak

  • Dear Colin,

I carrefully read information, you sent.

As I understood UCC29950 include single phase PFC and half-bridge LLC.

Can I use it for about 2 kW application (AC-DC power supply for TAS5624A)?

Can I use for  this applicatiom PFC UCC28180 and LLC  UCC29950?

    Best regards

  • Hi Dmitriy,

At 2kW power level a better solution would be a CM interleaved boost controller like the UCC28070. The input ripple currents will be reduced and a smaller emi filter.

Again at 2kW the isoltaion stage could use a phase shifted full bridge using the UCC28950.

    Regards
