Hi
I'm breadboarding a project where I've already used LM2596-5 and -12 to provide non-isolated +5V (for digital) and +12V supplies (for analogue) from 12V~ and 26-0-26V~ transformer secondaries. These were for 750mA and 500mA max respectively so the LM2596s could be considered overkill, I guess, but that way I didn't have to consider providing additional heatsinking.
The next step is to provide +3V3 and +5V supplies for a Venice FS2020 DAB digital radio module - datasheet says 150mA max, each rail. As I'd like to avoid ground problems I need these to be isolated from, but derived from, either the +5V or +12V. Maybe the +3V3 from the +5V and the +5V from the +12V?
Not sure how practical this is as availability of the necessary transformer could be a problem, I guess.
Anyhow, having spent a few hours buried in the LM2596 application note, while I'm looking forward to doing the same with the LM2587 application note, thought I'd ask if this is a good device to use - or whether I should be looking at another (bearing in mind the likely use of higher-rated devices than strictly necessary to avoid additional heatsinking).
