Maintain a constant DC

Good day,

Im am working on a project at my facility that requires the use of a 24V forklift battery with the power leads connected to the main contactor.  From there, they go into a 20A fuse into a power inverter set up to supply 100V output.  The problem we are haveing is when the motor is at full operation(draw), the battery output voltage drops below 20V which trips out the power inverter (converter).  What could i add to this system to help maintain a constant 24V output?  I am under the impression that a Capacitor would creat a short if in series........  Thoughts?

Thank you in advance
