Isolated DC-DC converter circuit simulation using TI TINA tool

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC2897A, TINA-TI, UCC2891

Hi,

I need to simulate my schematic in TI TINA tool. I have downloaded version 9.

Input: 20VDC to 75VDC

Output: 12V/3.4A

Transformer: EFD25

Topology: Forward converter

Switching frequency: 250KHz

Device: UCC2897A

I need to model the forward converter transformer, please suggest me which option I need to select in the Transformer option in schematic editor tool like ideal transformer, non linear transformer.

I have attached here the schematic file. while running ERC is zero but while doing DC analysis (table of DC results) simulation, it will get stuck in the middle and giving an error.

Please suggest me on forward converter transformer modeling and circuit simulation.

  • Hi Kiran,

I see that the model that you have uploaded is unencrypted in TINA-TI. However, we have not publically provided this unencrypted model. May I know where you got this model from?

FYI...For now I am going to delete the file from the post

    Thanks,

  • Hi Kiran,

Please have a look at the UCC2891 TINA-TI Schematic. You can reuse the transformers from that schematic and set the appropriate parameters. Alternately if you have a transformer in mind then the manufacturer could provide you with the spice model for that transformer. You can then import that spice model into TINA-TI (note that the spice model provided must be PSpice compatible for the import). More information about importing spice models into TINA-TI is available here:

Your simulation is getting stuck as it may not be able to find proper convergence. I would recommend using the UCC2891 TINA-TI reference design as a starting point (as it simulates fine) and then make small changes and verify until you get to your UCC2897A solution. You can find more information on convergence characteristics of TINA-TI, please refer to the Help menu in TINA-TI. Type 'analysis' in the search box and choose "Analysis | Set Parameters"

    Thanks
