The introductory section of the reference design document for the TIDA-00335 power supply mentions an optional microcontroller, "The design also provides flexibility for battery voltage and current level setting for charge profiling, through an additional external microcontroller." Is additional documentation available about this MCU interface and how it is used and controlled?

TIDA-00335 does not have to do with a power supply or microcontroller. Is it possible that there is a typo in the TI Design number? Please double check and/or provide the title of the TI Design. --RJH

My mistake. I was referring to the TIDA-00355 design MCU interface.

Reading the introduction I suspect this aspect of the development is left to the user should they have a suitable micro controller available.

Sure, we can implement a suitable MCU, but I need information about the interface itself. The MCU interface is shown on page 2 of the schematic in the upper right hand corner on a 5-pin header designated J2. The connector has the following signals:

Vcc
GND
FB (in)
VS (out)
IS (out)

Signals 1 & 2 are self explanatory. I would like to know more about signals 3, 4 & 5 and how this interface is intended to be used to control current and voltage levels.

Hi Mark

The FB, VS and IS nets hav been highlighted in the schematic below.

The IS signal is the voltage dropped R18 & R20 the two 20mR resistors in parallel due to the load current flowing through them.

The VS signal is the divided down proxy for the output voltage. Both of these signals can be read into an ADC with suitable buffering.

The FB signal is a voltage from the MCU that can be used to vary the output voltage of the power stage by modifying the feedback signal to the UCC25600 that controls the LLC operating frequency.
