Survey TI device for Battery Backup Unit(BBU)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS40210, UCC28740, UCC28700

Hi all,

Our customer need TI's device build Battery Backup Unit(BBU),

Fly-back topology 20W
Vin is 12V ~ 25V
Switch frequency 100 kHz
CC-CV mode

and I suggest two method to him.

1. TPS40210 with TL103

2. UCC28740

If you have best solution can suggest ,please advise ,thanks.

  • Hi Kuo,

The UCC28740 has an integrated HV start-up device which is designed to work in off line ac/dc applications and will not be able to provide sufficient current to bias the IC at 12V to 25V input.

The UCC2813 series of PWM controller have Vcc turn-on thresholds at less that 10V and can be run at 100kHz. The difficulty is that the controllers do not not provide CC mode and this would have to be implemented by the customer using a separate current loop.

    Does the application require isolation?

    Regards

    Peter
  • Hi Peter,

Thanks for you reply, If change UCC28700 with charge pump provide VDD 21V turn-on current, can suitable this case?
