UCC28070: one or two phases of PFC mosfet blown up in this interleave CCM PFC booster application.why?

Part Number: UCC28070

One or two phases of PFC mosfet were blown up  in this interleave CCM PFC booster application on the terminal customer.  The defective rate is very high, but no found in the burn-in of power supply manufactory and direct customer. why?

We are in process of designing PFC with UCC28070 integrated circuit. Those information of this project are shown as below: output power 1400W, 90-265Vac input voltage,47~63Hz input frequency, 390Vdc output, 70 kHz as switching frequency. PFC choke is sendust KS-157060 300uH,CT(current transformer) turns 1100.

We use TI excel design tool calculator to calculate components values.

we designed all components to values with those  reference design evaluation modules  in 300W and 1200W ,3KW,5kW from TI website UCC28070EVM . The UCC28070DW operated normally in the factory and direct customer.  We are confused why the high defective rate occurred in the terminal customer. why?

  • Hi Jack

Am I correct in thinking that the failing products were made to a design that had been completed - with design reviews - testing - component stress analysis etc etc. ?

If the failing products were manufactured, tested, burned in and retested without any problems and then delivered the customer where they failed then that would point to some mis-use of the product rather than a design problem.

I would look very carefully at the way the customer is using the product - are there any unexpected electrical stresses, thermal stresses, mechanical stresses.

    Regards

    Colin

  • Yes, You are right. we had completed those test procession .
we excluded the case of mis-used product in the customer.
those mosfet burnt were replace by good mosfet , and then the power supply will run normally.
  • the terminal customer is in USA, but We are in China. we will arrange our technician to handle in USA.
could TI FAE in USA give some support with us to handle in field with our technician? thank you.
