Does TI have a switching regulator or controller chip or design of any type (boost, buck, flyback, etc.), a.k.a. the topology doesn't matter,that has a serial (SPI, I2C, SM/PMBus, UART, etc.) interface so that a microcontroller could control the power supply's output?

We have quite a few. Can you tell me more about your requirements? Input voltage, output voltage and current? Then i can suggest some possibilities for you.

Sorry about the delay, I only get to get on here rather sporadically. I need it to be a flyback with an output current of at least 0.5A and an output voltage of 3-40V and be capable of a 13.8 volt input because it is for a car battery power instrument and if possible be through hole.

Andy,
You can look at UCC28C43 family or UCC28C43-Q1 if you need automotive qualified flyback controller. It has 2.5V error amp ref so you can do 3V output and has UVLO below 13.8V so no issue with input voltage. You can configure it as boost, buck boost, or flyback as desired since it is a more general purpose PWM. It is available in some through hole packages as well.

To adjust the output voltage from MCU or similar most people use the power supply like normal but then use a digital potentiometer like this device or similar: www.ti.com/.../TPL0401A-10 potentiometer&tisearch=Search-EN-Everything

I think I will probably use the UCC28C43 family and the digital potentiometer method. Does TI have a through hole digital potentiometer- the interface method does not really matter ?
