UCC24612: Can it drive 2 pcs 100A MOSFET in parallel ?

Hi Ti Team

Customer want to design 320W SMPS using UCC28056+UCC25630, and the output is 12V/27A. So customer plan to 2pcs UCC24612, 4pcs 100A MOSFET. One ucc24612 need to drive 2 pcs 100A MOSFET in parallel, Can the UCC24612 driver it directly ? or customer need add totem pole circuit ? The mosfet parameter is as below. pls. suggest.

Can you provide which MOSFET you customer want to use?

I am wondering 2 MOSFET parallel might also have too low Rdson.

The suggest SR's Rdson is around 7 mΩ

The Rdson is 3 mohm. So ucc24612 can't driver it. Is it ?

Hi Aggil,

I just want to point out that 320W is quite large to expect from a single phase transition PFC such as UCC28056. You might want to consider CCM PFC such as UCC28180 or interleaved transition mode PFC such as UCC28064.

Yes, if the Rdson is too low, UCC24612 will not be a good suggestion.

Hello Kevin

Your customer probably knows this already but it is important to use separate gate drive resistors for the paralleled MOSFETs. The main reason for this is to prevent destructive, high frequency (>100MHz) oscillations on the gates. The PCB layout of the two paralleled devices also needs to be as symmetrical as possible. Their SR supplier will be able to give more details.
