TPS65177: The value of collector capacitor of VGH

Part Number: TPS65177

Hi team,

In the guideline of TPS65177, it shows larger collector capacitor makes the load transient response worse.

Could 1uF be used? Why does the load transient become worse?

  • Hello Robin,

The load transient response gets slower if this capacitor is bigger because the current change on the transistor caused by the load transient first needs to change the voltage on this capacitor before a change can be observed on the output.

1uF might be possible, but you might observe as well some stability issues if this capacitor gets such big. We need to check the load transient in the lab to verify this. Tomorrow there is no one in the office who could do this test. You could either check it on the EVM on your side or we can check it on Monday. For this test, it would be great to get some information on the load transient that is expected on this rail.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
  • Thanks, Brigitte.
  • Hello Robin,

Do I understand your answer correctly that you will check the transient response in the customer application and we can close this thread?

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
  • Hi Brigitte,

Sorry for delay reply. Yes, thanks for your support.
