TPS65132: TPS65132 over current issue

Part Number: TPS65132

Hi BU team,

Our customer are using the tablet mode with TPS65132B0, they found the peak current at VPOS/VNEG could be up to 80mA to 100mA in dozens of uS. I notice the current limit for VPOS is 200mA and 80mA for the VNEG, and I have searched the e2e website, don’t find an accurate threshold/response time for the over current of the NEG rail. with the regular 4.7uF/10uF capacitor at VNEG, could you help to advise the maximum output current and duration for the VNEG rail, and if the over current event lasts quite long time, what’s the behavior of the VNEG output, no regulation and the VNEG drops or shutdown?

Regards

Luke

  • Hello Luke,

The current limit of the negative charge pump is 80mA DC and for the LDO is 200mA DC.

The output capacitors on both converters are able to deliver a lot more peak current (dependent on the effective capacitance and on the duration of the peak current).

If the overcurrent lasts long, the negative converter will deliver as much current as it is able to (it will be a bit more than 80mA, because this is the guaranteed minimum and with margin it will be a bit higher, but not too much (depends on the temperature, some process variation and somewhat on the input voltage).
The output voltage will drop if the load current is above this maximum current, but the converter will not shut down.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
