TPS65186: TPS65185 about the purpose of the discharge pins

Part Number: TPS65186
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65185

HI,

I am designing an e-paper display using TPS65185. But due  to I2C address clash with another IC in the mother board I am moving to TPS65186. On comparison between the two ICs I found a few discharge pins          ( VPOS_DIS , VNEG_DIS , VEE_DIS , VDDH_DIS , VCOM_DIS ) absent in TPS65186.

What is the actual purpose of these pins?

As per my understanding the purpose of these pins is to reduce the discharge time for the power rails when switched off. Does the absence of these pins impact on the functioning of the IC?

Thanks in advance!!!

  • Hello Yuvaraj,

The *_DIS pins just add a discharge resistor to the output loads when the pins are disabled. The purpose of this is to control how long it takes to discharge the outputs. Without this discharge resistor, the output discharge will only depend on the load current and output capacitance.

Otherwise, this has no effect on the function or performance of the IC.

    Regards,
    Karl
