LED driver IC instability?

Hello,

I suggested to the  engineering director of a company that make SMPS's for LED car lights that they may benefit from using LED driver chips (IC's)  instead of PWM controller chips to control their SMPS's.

(they were always using LTC1871 PWM controller for all their LED lights)

The response was that specific LED driver chips  have instabilities and so would not be used.

Is this correct?
