LM3916 - How do I use it to trigger a 5V Solid State Relay

I built a VU meter using the data sheet - all good.

The LM3916 switches ground.

I have an 8-channel relay board (which I already have been using and I understand how to use it), and it is triggered by +5v.

How do I use the LM3916 to trigger this solid state relay?

Thanks!

  • I don't know exactly... I'm not the most experienced, but here's an idea anyway...

I'd check your spec sheet on that relay and see what minimum voltage you need to turn it on and then if the output from the LM3916 isn't quite large enough, then you could wire the IC's output to a basic NPN transistor which would control an appropriate voltage source across the Collector and Emitter pins. That should flip your relay... maybe?

    Just a random guess. :-)

    Good luck with this!
