LM3414 leaking current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3414, LM3414HV

Hi,

I'm testing the chip LM3414 and with dim pin at 0V, I'm getting a very small leak on the LED string.

It is about 45uA, but it is enough to see a small glow in the entire LED string.

What could be causing this?

Sincerely,

Roberto

  • Hey,

I also have found this issue with the LM3414HV. I have the evaluation board for the IC and am getting around 6uA at 15 V with the dimming pin grounded, enough to see the LEDs in a dark room.

I have made a design out of this evaluation board and it has the same current leakage at around 48V.

Is there any work around for this issue? Supporting component issue?

    Cheers,

    Michael

  • Place a resistor 330K in parallel to D1 (between Pin 7 and 8).

I got this solution from another LED driver chip from TI and it was in the datasheet, but for some reason it is not in the LM3414 datasheet.

I can't remember right now which chip it was.

    It worked for me.

    Hey,

I put the resistor on both the eval board and the new board and it Worked!

    Thank you for the assistance!

  • Roberto,

Could you please find out which driver chip datasheet that contain this information?
My new board required this resistor, but the old one did not. Did you ever seen any circuit that don't require this resistor for any reason?
