UCC28810 - design tool

Hi,

I want to design an LED driver using UCC28810 with following specs

Input = 90V to 270VAC and

Output = 65V at 1.15 Ampere - constant current

Kindly suggest the transformer details.

I have a few questions :-

a) Is UCC28810 the best suitable LED driver for this requirement (where PFC is NOT a must , but if available, it is ok !!)

b) Is there a design tool to generate the transformer details using UCC28810 ? (I could NOT find the same on T I website)

c) What is the frequency of operation of this device ? I could NOT find it in the data sheet

        I have been using using Wurth Electronics for the transformers. Those transformers are customer transformers. The one I just used P/N 750313856 is close to what you need ( It is a ETD34 size transfomer ). I don't think we have a transformer design tool for this part right now. I think it is better to work with the transformer manuafcture for off line power supply transformers because those transformesr need to meet the safety standards.

     

        UCC28810 works at critical conduction mode. The switching frequency is not fixed. It changes with the input voltage and the output power. You can estimate the switching frequency at a given input voltage and output power by using the flyback converter power transfer equation P = (1/2)*(Lp)*(Ip)^2*(Fsw), Lp is the transformer primary inductance, Ip is the peak primary current ( the data sheet shows you how to calculate this peak current ), P is the input power.

  • Hi David Zhang, Thanks for your reply. However, there must be a maximum operating frequency for this device. Even in the general equation that you have mentioned, there is the parameter 'Fsw' , which is the switching frequency !!

    I repeat my question - what is the max freq of operation of this device ?

       The IC can go up to 1MHz switching frequency.

    Is there any update to the design tool now for simulating complete design including transformers with UCC28810 ?
