LP8556SQE I2C

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP8556SQ-EVM

Hello,

LP8556SQE device description “PWM Only” – Recommended for systems without an I2C master.

But I saw LP8556SQ-EVM can using I2C control, please help check LP8556SQE is support PWM only or still can control by I2C?

Thanks.

  • Kevin,

The short answer is yes you can still control the LP8556SQE by I2C.  There is a register called BRT_MODE (01h bits 2 & 1) that selects whether you use the PWM input or the i2c brightness register (00h) to control the brightness.  By default, the LP8556SQE's BRT_MODE is set to the PWM input method (Note: the "Device Option" notes in the datasheet refers to the default configuration for each device order number).  But this default configuration can be overwritten via I2C and you can then use register 00h to change the brightness.  The device will go back to default configuration when VDD or VDDIO/EN go low, so you will need to reprogram the BRT_MODE each time you wake the device back up.

Hope that helps and also that you have a Happy New Year!

    Thanks again,

    Jeremy
