0-10V dimming solution based on LM3414

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3414

Hi there,

I am working on a 0-10V dimming solution based on LM3414 to drive a LED string.  I understand that I should use the DIM pin of LM3414 for dimming the LED string.  Unfortunately there did not exist an UL approved 0-10V dimming driver for this kind of application.  Nevertheless I did an experiment by hooking a 0-10V constant voltage dimming driver to the LM3414 without connecting to the DIM pin.  The output of 0-10V dimming driver feeds a 24V PWM signal to the Pin 8 (VIN) of LM3414.  I found that the LED string could be dimmed by varying the control voltage of 0-10V wall box dimmer switch without flickering.  Is it OK to feed this 24V PWM dimming signal directly to the Pin 8 (VIN) of LM3414 for extended period of time without damaging the IC?

Cheers,

Bill
