TLC5973 maximum ground current rating

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5973

Hello,

i don't see the maximum ground current rating through the ground pin (pin 4) for the TLC5973.  Can all 3 outputs run at 50mA simultaneously along with 10mA of Icc current.  If so, max total would be around 160mA based on shunt regulator usage.  However, this isn't specified in the datasheet.  Any help would be great.

Thank you

  • Hi,

As tlc5973 support 50mA max current for 3 channels. If you add the consumption for Icc, it means the ground pin can support 160mA current.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Feifel,

One other question, the TLC5973 datasheet mentions that the second rising edge should happen before 0.5 X Tcycle when trying to drive a ‘1’.  It also mentions that when the SDI rising edge is not input before 0.9XTcycle that the data will be recognized as a ‘0’.

So, if we are using 4 bits to represent our data and we are transitioning high right at 0.5 X Tcycle.  Is this acceptable as long as we transition high well before 0.9XTcycle?  It is working fine on our test setups right at the 50% point, but our fear is that with temperature and tolerance it may not always work reliably.  Ideally, this works, otherwise we would have to go to more bits to make it work.

    Thank you

  • HI,
As you said, sometimes 50% point works well in some boards but we can't make sure this works for all cases. To avoid any unexpected failure, I suggest to move the point ahead of 50% point.
    Thanks,Rosley
