Sync multiples TPS92512

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92512

Hi,

I'm interesting to use multiple TPS92512(HV) together. We will probably pulse LEDs at 2A for a short period. I read in the datasheet that it's a good idea to sync together the drivers in multiple LEDs strings application (to avoid beat freq and EMI problem).

Is-it a good idea to phase shift the PWM clocks between LEDs drivers in that case?

I think it could decrease the stress over my input capacitors. If yes, do you have a low cost solution to do it (we will use 6x LEDs drivers)?

Best Regards,

Denis

  • Denis:
There is no benefit of doing multiphase switch in this application. The input currents are relatively low. Multipahse buck converters are good for high current > 25A operations. The major benefit of multiphase buck is the output ripple reduction.

  • Hi David,

    Thanks for your answer.

I'm sorry, I read back my original text and I think my question wasn't clear. Just to be sure that we are talking about the same thing: I don't want to use multiple LED drivers to drive the same LEDs string. At 2A, I agree that there is no benefit.

On the other hands, I have multiple totally independent LEDs drivers. Each drives 1 LED string at 2A. From what you said, it's not very important to synchronize these LEDs drivers together on the same clock (with the RT/clock pin)?

If I won't have any befinit to do that with 2A per LED driver, I will avoid it. On the other hand, I'm not sure anymore what is the purpose of this sync feature.

    Thanks,

    Denis
