LM2755 EVM USB Initialization, error

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2755

Hi,

my cst is evaluating our LM2755. They received the EVM but the USB connection does not work.

Following message occurs : USB Initialization, error.

They are using for USB connection the board from National delivered with the evaluation kit, see attachment.

How to solve the problem.

Many Thanks

Best wishes,

Olrik

  • Unfortunately that USB interface board no longer works with Windows.  I can send you a work around.  is your contact Maier Olrik?  I will send you the info through email.

    Thanks

  • Hi Travis,

My customer MSI is having the same issue. Kindly send the work around. My email address johnson.cheah@ti.com (Johnson Cheah). Thanks.
  • Hi Travis,

I'm having the same issues with my development kit. Would you be able to send the workaround as well?

    Thanks,

    T.J.

  • Hi Travis,

I just bought the evaluation board / development kit in order to test the LM2755.
The USB interface isn't working for me either.
Would you be able to end me the workaround as well? (address: christian.ridderstrom AT profoto.com)

    Regards,
    Christian
  • No problem.  I will email you off line from the E2E system.  It will be easier from my direct email.

    Thanks

    Travis

  • Some additional info in case it helps others.

The baseboard I got with the LM2755 evaluation board is labelled:

    National Semiconductor
    USB Interface
    Rev. 1.1.
    551012498-002 REV A

which is also what you can see in the photo from Olrik.

Travis told me this is the board that has problems with Windows 7 etc. His workaround involves using a different board, ANY2USB.

However, it's not completely impossible to get the National Semiconductor board working with Windows 7.

My first attempt was on a Windows 10 laptop, where it didn't work. I then tried on my laptop with Windows 7, where it also didn't work.
But on the third attempt on an another (and old) Windows 7 laptop it did work.

    Observations:
On the first two machines, where it didn't work, Windows managed to find/download USB drivers from Windows Update.
On the third machine, where it worked, the driver installation took a very long time and eventually _failed_ to find/download drivers from Windows Update. I don't know what (local) drivers Windows used instead, but they allowed the USB connection work just fine.

So a possible workaround (untested) could be to disconnect internet before plugging in the USB cable, so that the driver from Windows Update can't be used/found.
However, if you've already plugged in the USB cable with the machine connected to internet, your Windows have likely downloaded a driver from Windows Update, which will then be used if you later plug in the cable without internet. So in this case you'd somehow have to delete the USB driver from your machine. I know this is possible but I don't off-hand remember the details. Perhaps you use the device manager and right click on the USB device and tells it to remove the driver.
