TLC5955: Idle Power Consumption of the TLC5955

Part Number: TLC5955
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5957

Hi-

I'm looking at the TLC5955 for a battery powered application, and it looks like there is no sleep mode or other low power mode, meaning that it will always consume at least ~18mA. Is that right? Is there a way to get this idle current down when the system is not in use? The part works great otherwise, so I'd rather not change if I don't have to. I see the TLC5957 has a <2mA sleep mode.

Thanks!

  • Hi Dave,

TLC5957 has power save mode to lower down the supply current. For TLC5955, do you think if it's possible to insert a load switch to shut down the LED during standby mode?

    Best regards,
    Jason
  • Hi Jason-

Thanks for the reply. I could put in a switch to cut the power, however I have a first set of prototypes that I'm working with now and was hoping to find a way to put it in low power. Also, we are space constrained on this board and I'd like to avoid extra parts. So it sounds like there's no way to put the 5955 to sleep and save idle current?

    Thanks again
