TLC59116: schematic review and comment

Part Number: TLC59116

Hi team,

My customer is designing TLC59116 to drive their R/G/B LEDs and send me their schematic as attached for design review. Originally, I recommended one output channel for one LED for better LED current control and completed protection for each LED but customer want to save the cost so they designed each output channel connects to 3 parallel LEDs. They put a series resistor as a damping at the cathode of each LED for current limit protection if once one of the 3 parallel LEDs get damaged or opened. But I don’t think this would work since TLC59116 should still regulate the returned LED current to the designed level and the series resistors just waste the power. So I would recommend my customer NOT to put the series resistors. Can you please comment this? Thank you.

Best regards.

Randy
