TIDA-01096: Ambience light control

Part Number: TIDA-01096
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650, OPT3001, OPT3006, TPS92513

I saw your TIDA-01096 and this seems a good start for an application of LED dimming based on ambience reading by an integrated sensor.

It seems to complex for our needs and mainly:

a- the system done by RC Filter-OPA376-TPS92513HV seems too complex, maybe not necessary for our goal and in any case expensive. Frankly we saw the HV9910C of Microchip and, for our needs seems to be enough; at the end we need just one PWM reading to drive LEDs. Can TI propose something similar?

b- OPT3001 seems to be expensive compared to others (AMS TLS2591) and maybe the OPT3006 is enough. The only main request is that the sensor has programmable upper and lower thresholds over and lower which sends interrupts to the CC2650. we can work around this with software but it would be more complex; interrupts are more simple.

Many thanks

  • Hi, TPS92513 allows dimming using both analog and PWM dimming methods. Hence in TIDA-01096 schematic, you can just eliminate the components used for analog dimming and simply use PWM input from MCU to achieve dimming. Yes, OPT3006 also can be used for your requirement.
