TPS61050: TPS61050 Torch mode maximum current rating

Hi,

I am using TPS61050 in a Torch mode in my system design. I am able to provide up to 450-500mAmp current only, but my requirement is more than that. As per datasheet, TPS61050 Torch and Flash up to ILED = 1200 mA.

How can I increase the current level in torch mode? My current requirement is up to 800mAmp.

Also provide alternate solution for constant current in torch mode application.

Hi Mrudang,

Looking at the details of the datasheet (page 24), it appears that TPS61050 is capable of providing 500mA in torch mode and 1200mA in flash mode.

We inherited this part into our product line and I agree the feature bullet listed on the front page is not clear. However one could read it as just highlighting currents up to 1200mA.

We will look at other parts and see if we can suggest you a suitable part that can provide torch current up to 800mAmp.

Hi Mrudang,

We looked at our catalog and unfortunately we don't have any part that can provide ~800mA in torch mode at this point.

The max. we have is 500mA.

Hi Mrudang,

LM3414 and LM3405 are Buck Regulators.

What is your application? Whether you can use any of these parts depends on your application requirements.

HI Harini,

As I have discussed with you, my requirement is LED driver controller with 700-800mAmp current in Torch mode.

I guess this two product has feedback and PWM dimming control inside. So I think we can use this as a LED driver.

Hi Mrudang,

Yes, your requirement of 700-800mA constant current can be supported by LM3414. However as I said earlier, LM3414 is a Buck and it depends on your application (In, Out, Efficiency, I2C capability, Ripple, Stability BOM etc) whether this part is suitable for you or not.

If you've a specific question on that part, please start a new thread with that part # and the engineer & group supporting that part can look into your question & application
