TPS61165: Possible to measure output current without attaching LCD?

Part Number: TPS61165

Hi,

We want to use the TPS61165DRVT to drive the backlight of the NHD-7.0-800480EF-ASXN#-T LCD screen.

We've set the current sense resistor to 1.1Ohm in order to get ~180mA output current (as per LCD datasheet). We however only have one LCD right now and don't want to risk breaking it, so we want to try and measure the output current of driver before connecting LCD screen. We've tried simply placing a multimeter in series with output in order to measure the current but then we measure approximately 310mA and not the desired 180mA. Is this method of measuring the output current without the screen attached a valid method? Is there a better way to verify the output current before applying the LCD screen?

If our measurement is in fact correct, is there something wrong with the design? Where should I start debugging?

Kind regards

Tinus
