TLC5973: Use in new fixture design to control a string of LEDs

We are considering TLC5973/TLC59731 for a new addressable RGB LED fixture design.

Will this IC be supported in the future?

Do we have to be aware of any potential patent infringement when using this IC?

Are there any alternate IC that supports a higher update rate? We are looking for cascadable ICs that can control a string of 6 RGB leds each, preferably with only one or two control line.

Hi, Najath,

Of course, this IC will be supported.

You can also take a look for TLC5971, which supports 20MHz data transfer rate and it uses two wires control.

Thank you for the quick reply.

We are using 24 V supply, while TLC5971 has max 17 V. So it won't be suitable.

Any comments regarding patent ?

Hi, Najath,

For the patent, I think you may need to consider that of the total system solution.

There's no limitation from LED driver side for how you want to use it.
