LP8860-Q1: Protection nFETs and SQW output

Hi,

On item 9.2.3 of LP8860-Q1 datasheet there is a suggestion to use SQW signal connected to nFET gate, in case of non availability of a power signal, to protect OUTx pins.

Please would you kindly confirm if the protection mechanism involved is the use of the breakdown voltage of nFET to limit OUTx pin voltage.

I'd like also to assure that SQW may not be used, as I need a very strict control of LEDs current.

Hello Mr. Cardoso,

Sorry for the delay. I think that using the nFET should provide overvoltage protection to OUTx pin to avoid potentially harmful voltages on such OUTx pin hopefully before reaching its breakdown voltage.

My understanding is that SQW could be used if the necessary voltage to power nFET gate/s is not available. If SQW is unused the pin may be left floating.
