I'm not sure if I am in the right forum or not - please direct me if I am not.
I am currently looking at various options for CCFL backlight controllers (yes, I know that LED backlighting is the modern path…). Do you have any recommended controllers or information?
I am looking at is the use of a piezoelectric transformer. Are you aware of this technology and the pros and cons associated with it? To your knowledge how wide spread is the use of piezoelectric transformers? Also are you familiar with direct drive CCFL controllers? Micro Semi has one.... In their app note they talk about how much better it is, however, I am looking for a wider sampling of information on “how good” direct drive really is. I believe Micro power has a patent on the direct drive, so this may influence other manufacturers decision to use it (especially since LEDs are more modern).
Any info/opinions on the best way to go would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
Calum
We are not supporting piezoelectric transformers any longer. The piezoelectric transformer drivers UCC3975, 76 and 77 are discontinued and not recommended for new design.
