I'm working on an signalizing project. I've to make some kind of signal lightning for car drivers. I don't have enought experience in lightning, so I'm going to buy Super flux LEDs (consume 70mA), Thru-hole leds (consume 20mA) and High power leds (consume 350-700mA), and I'll try it them in real conditions. For that, I need some kind of adjustable LED Driver, and that is the reason why I'm here. What are you thinking about TPS61165, TPS61150, TPS61062 or TL4242. I'm going to use battery supply. I'm looking forward for your answer.

    TPS61165 or TPS61500 for the high current Drivers.  TPS6106x or TPS6116x for the low current single string drivers.  TPS61150 or TPS6118x for the multi string drivers.

    TPS61165 has no access to the gate of the fet, so how can you mitigate the switch - on spike?

    the switch-on spike, -due to the charge-up of the boost schottky, is the worst thing in the EMC book

    See http://focus.ti.com/lit/an/slyt340/slyt340.pdf  for explanation as to how the TPS61165 manages the switch on spike.

    If you want access to the gate of the FET, you need to move to a controller with external FETS like the TPS40211.

    hello ,

     

    i  have avidly read that link many times myself.......but sadly it only makes reference to the TPS61161....it does not say that the dual slope method applies to TPS61165.

    The TPS61165 datasheeet makes NO mention of dual slope switch on so you must assume it does not possess it.

    The TPS61165  has the same switch driver as its other family members, the 60,61 and 70.

    Yes.  The TPS61500 also has the two step/dual slope switch turn on to reduce the higher frequency EMI spikes.
