TLC5943 EVM - software stuck in 'DSP firmware update' of EVM (TLC5943EVM-274)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5943

I have a TLC5943 EVM (2 actually), that when powered up seems to be functional (no smoke, and the LEDs are driven in a very colorful 'scrolling rainbow' scheme).

When I start up the GUI from my Windows-XP computer, it finds the EVM (USB connected) and within a few seconds pops up a window that says the EVM 'DSP firmware update', The board does not have firmware. The wizard will update the Flash on the DSP board... click next step'.

I follow the on-screen instructions for re-flashing the unit. Re-boot the EVM, only to get the same error message. I have rebooted the entire PC, and EVM to no avail.

The DSP board has a hand-written number of "28190 400"

Any suggestions as to getting around this flaw?

  • Does the on-screen instructions indicate any change in the JP1 configuration when reflashing the F2808 firware?  The TLC5943EVM-274 User's Guide (SLVU289) suggests in Section 2.1.12 that a change in the jumper settings is needed for firmware updates.

  • Brandon - There was a whole set of step-by-step instructions that one scrolls through, but it was a never ending routine. Once the unit was 'flashed', the process simply started over... and over.... and over.

The real resolution was that I was able to FTP a more current software revision. For some reason, the S/W that is on the TI Web is the wrong revision (as of 5/8/09) - it may have been updated since then.
