My customer has been using an LM2937IMP-5.0 for an automotive application but now they need to add on/off control via a logic input but really don’t have much more room than the SOT223 package.

What is recommended for something like the LM2937IMP-5.0 with on/off control and no larger than a SOT223 package?

LM2937 features like internal short circuit and thermal overload protection, Reverse battery protection and 60V input transient protection should be available also.

LM2937

Best fit might be : LM2941LD.

This is an not exact match for LM2937 electrical performance, but it is close.

It has 'On/Off' pin where High= Off, Low= On. The 'LD' package is small 4mm x 4mm 8-lead LLP, but LM2941 requires two external R's to set Vout and has 22uF minimum Cout requirement with some ESR included.
