LM1117: Output voltage limits vs. temperature range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM1117

According to the datasheet, the LM1117 is available in 2 different temperature grades:

LM1117-N:    0°C to 125°C
LM1117I:   −40°C to 125°C

The output voltage specifications (Min/Typ/Max) for the 3.3V fixed voltage devices are

3.235   3.300   3.365   V   (for LM1117-N),
3.168   3.300   3.432   V   (for LM1117I).

These values apply over the respective full temperature range.

My question is:
At first glance, the LM1117I seems to have wider output voltage limits. But I wonder if it will have the same limits as the LM1117-N, as long as it is operated in the LM1117-N's temperature range (i.e. above 0°C).

  • If you tighten the temperature range, then you can expect the min and max spec to become tighter as well.

That being said, these are two different devices (LM1117I and LM1117-N) that were tested under different conditions, so I cannot confirm they will be the same.
