LP2951 spice model?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP2951, TINA-TI

Hello all,

Does anyone have a lead on where to get a spice model for LP2951 LDO? I already asked TI support via email and they said we don't have one but try asking on the forum. (Quite how a non TI employee would have enough internal info on the IC to model it beyond a very simplistic generic LDO model I don't know...)

There is a model for LP2951 http://www.ti.com/product/LP2951/toolssoftware#simulationmodels but it is wrapped up and encrypted in a Cadence Orcad simulation file. Why do TI provode a model but only in 'proprietary' format?

Best regards,

Daniel.

  • Daniel,

To answer your first question, TI does provide a PSpice model for the LP2951. It is a PSpice model that is encrypted and can only be used in PSpice version 15.7 or higher. I am not sure who would have told you that we do not have a model since it is located in the product folder (which you have already found as well).

Your second question is more difficult to answer. The models are provided in an encrypted format to protect any IP that may be contained in the model, which is the basis for using encryption. The PSpice model format appears to be the most popular format that customers can use. TI also provides a free simulator (TINA-TI) which can support the models as well as reference designs. TI does provide unencrypted PSpice models, however, in some cases an NDA is required.

If you have a direct TI support contact, they may request the unencrypted PSpice model for you. If you do not have a direct TI contact, you may request the unencrypted PSpice model from the Product Information Center based on the following post:

I believe that the phone number has changed, however.
