LM7812

Dear Sir, please answer

1) Is it possible to use LM7812 at 32V input voltage (output currrent is 70mA)?

2) Please, report, how to attach any file to post?

TIA

Sincerely

  • The 32V input is above the rated operating input voltage of 30V, but below the AbsMax input voltage of 35V.

That does not leave much room for random voltage spikes, so you will need to be careful.

    Power dissipation will be: ((32V - 12V) x 70mA) + (32V x 0.8mA) = 1.4W + 0.026W = 1.426W

You did not mention your ambient temperature, it might matter. For the package you want to use, you need to make sure that the junction temperature does not exceed 125C when dissipating 1.426W. This is discussssed in the datasheet.

E2E is going through some format changes now. Recently to attach or insert files you needed to switch to the 'rich text' mode and look for the 'insert media' icon in the tool bar. That might change soon.
