Using LM317s for bench power supplies (tracking?)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM317

Hi I'm trying to design my own bench power supply and I'm considering using am LM317 as a starting point.

I've looked at datasheet number: SNVS774O MAY 2004 REVISED JANUARY 2014.

In figure 42 the is a circuit for a constant voltage/constant current but the value of the variable resistor (R8) for voltage adjustment isn't specified.

What value it should be?

Ideally, I'd like to build a tracking regulator (+/- 30v) with independent constant current settings for each rail (or at least an indication when either rail exceeds a set point).

So is there a modification for figure 42 where the voltage is set with just a single “R8” (to allow tracking), but there would still be a “R2” for each rail?

Thanks, Trevor
