LDO replacement

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP38692, LP38690

We are using LM2940T-5.0 (from National semiconductor) in a design (TO-220 package)
This IC does not have undervoltage lockout option.

Can you suggest a replacement for this LDO with undervoltage lock out and power good signal ?

Our first preference will be a drop in replacement.

A slightly lower output current is also acceptable ~  can be of the order of 750mA to 1A.

  • Hi Muktha,

We can assist you but first we need to know the input voltage range. Could you please provide that information?

    Regards,
    David
  • " ... Our first preference will be a drop in replacement. ..."

Need some defintion on what would be second/third/fourth preferences.

Since LM2940T-5.0 is 3-pin TO-220, adding POK signal out will add 1 pin, and an Enable pin would probably be needed to create a UVLO function, that's a second pin.

    That will be a 5-pin TO-220.

I presume operating Vin would still be 6V to 26V, and  operating Iout no less than 750mA.

    OK?

  • We are ok with TO-220, 5 pin package.

Based on our design in any case, our input voltage requirement will not be greater than 10V.

Vin will be order of 6V-10V.

Iout requirement will be min 750mA

  • Based on the criteria given, I don't see anything close available in TO-220-5.
Best fit would probably be the TPS76850 - but it's only available only in either 8-pin SOIC, or 20-pin HTSSOP.
If I remove the 'Power Good' requirement, the LP38690, LP38692, and TPS76750 are possibilities, but none are available in TO-220.
