TPS758: Layout Guidelines TO-263

Part Number: TPS758

Hi,

What are the layout guidelines for the TPS75801? Is there any example with a multilayer PCB with power and ground plane?

I've read the recommendation from the datasheet but there aren't any layout guidelines. Input and output capacitors should be placed as close to the device pins as possible.

Is it recommended that the board to be designed with separate ground planes for IN and OUT?

  • Hi,

As with many older devices, we do not have any formal layout example outside of the recommended land pattern data is appended to the end of the datasheet.

All general layout practices for LDOs apply to TPS758, most of which you already stated. Input and output capacitors should be placed as close to the device pins as possible. To add to this, these capacitors should be on the same side of the PCB as the device and have a same layer ground path to the device if possible (no vias). Your comment on separate ground planes is also valid as it will slightly improve AC performance of the system. These ground planes must be connected at the ground pin as all voltages are referenced to the ground pin internally.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
