TLV733P: max power dissipation.

Part Number: TLV733P

Hello Team,

My customer intend to use TLV733P as 3.3Vin to 1.2Vout  165mA, it has Vdrop=2.1V and power dissipation is 0.3465W, they are wondering if TLV733P X2SON (4) package can support 346.5mW?

The datasheet only mentioned 300mA is max recommended, but it doesn't mention max power dissipation.

What can you tell about the max power dissipation fo TLV733P?

If TLV733P X2SON (4) package can support 346.5mW?

Thanks.

Martin

  • Hi Martin,

    Since applications using TLV733P can vary widely, we provide the information needed to determine the maximum power dissipation for a given application.  TLV733P has a maximum operating junction temperature of 125C.

    Since you already know the power dissipation for your application (346.5mW), we can use the Thermal Information table to calculate the maximum ambient temperature that this application can operate within the recommended operating conditions.  More information about thermal metrics can be found in the application report linked below every Thermal Information table.

    Tamax = Tjmax - Pd x Rθja

    Tamax = 125C - 346.5mW x 218.6C/W

    Tamax = 49.2C

    For your application, as long as the ambient temperature remains below 49.2C, you will be within the recommend operating range for junction temperature.

    Very Respectfully,

    Ryan
