Is the pin 1 indicator the line over the G or the "backwars L" under the line under the V?

you can easily check by conducting a continuity test between OUT terminal on the EVM and the device pins since pin 1 is the OUT pin, please refer to TLV171P datasheet pin out.

This isn't an EVM. I need to know what it looks like on the chip itself so my assembly mfgs don't put this part on backwards. The documentation is exceptionally bad.

My apology I didn't understand your question the first time, yes pin 1 is the "backward L" under the V letter.
