TPS7A8300: startup with TPS7A3301 question

Part Number: TPS7A8300
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH5401, , TPS7A33

Hi,

Does the TPS7A3301 LDO have any startup issues if the output were to be biased positive before it is enable is asserted?

I could not find any information on this in the data sheet.

Here is some background on by problem.

I have a board with a +/- 2.6V analog supplies that powers 16 LMH5401’s Amplifiers and about 48 AD8605A op-amps, that is running into startup problems,

I re-read the TPS7A8300 data sheet and figured out what my problems were:

  1. I was asserting the EN pin on the TPS7A8300 before VIN was present,
  2. There was a scenario where the TPS7A3301 negative supply could be operational prior to the TPS7A8300 being enabled, thus pulling the TPS7A8300 output below ground

Both of these scenarios prevent the TPS7A8300 from starting up.

I have addressed Item 1

Item 2 I was going to address with sequencing, since the TI Manual suggests enabling the TPS7A8300 prior to the negative supply which I can do, but this brings up the question as to what the TPS7A3301 will do if its output is biased positive?

Any additional insight would be helpful!

Thanks,

David

  • Hi David,

The TPS7A83 does have a problem starting into a negative output. I am not familiar with any issues with the TPS7A33 starting into a positive voltage.

Keep in mind that the TPS7A33 enable can be tied to a positive logic enable with the TPS7A83's enable.
